Local Grant Recipients

9 to 5
MISSION STATEMENT: "The Los Angeles chapter of 9 to 5 was organized in 2006. We’re fighting discrimination and harassment and advocating paid sick days, equal pay, immigrant rights, and general rights & respect for women in the workplace."

SDOP funded their "Winning Economic Justice for Low-Income Women" project. "

El Rescate

The El Rescate Family Rescue Center is located in a trailor on the parking lot of First Presbyterian Church of Canoga Park. Their main goal is to help families and individuals become self-supporting by helping them to stay healthy. They provide non-emergency services like employment physicals, health education and screenings for high blood pressure and diabetes, addressing the injustice of lack of access to health services for the poor. SDOP funds were given to help remodel the trailor to expand services.

Photos were taken at the July 2009 Presbytery of the Pacific where these grants were announced by the Presbytery's SDOP chairperson, the Rev. Ann Hayman.
